Once again at the Nebraska Fur Harvesters Convention, Mike Lance will be doing the youth trap toss. This is a fun activity for kids of all ages. Mike has been doing this for a lot of years and kids look forward to it every year.
But we need your help.
We need used traps for the giveaway. Each kid comes away with a trap to take home. If you are coming to the convention, please bring a 1 1/2 coil spring, dog proof, or 110 for donation to the youth trapping program. If you are not coming, send one with someone who is.
If you are at the convention and see Mike, tell him thanks for all he does for Nebraska’s trapping future.
Thank you for your donations!

We are excited to have our Vendor Showcase page created and ready to show. These vendors have put in a lot of hard work, time, and miles to come and support our annual convention and help make it a success. When shopping for supplies or a place to sell your fur, make sure you remember to consider them with your support.
The photos for the 2016 Convention have been posted here.
The 2016 convention is in the books and a good time was had by all. Underneath all the vendor booths, tailgaters and demos is always the Nebraska Fur Harvesters general membership meeting. This is where policy and decisions are made by the organization, and this is open to all NFH members in current standing who desire to be a part of the direction and decision making of our organization.
Usually the biggest item on the agenda is where to hold the convention for the upcoming year. A couple guys from Sidney were here and made a very compelling case for their city. It was put to a vote and decided that next year’s convention will be in Sidney, Nebraska, September 22 – 23. Note: Someone please get me the names of these two gentlemen so I can update this article to give them proper credit.
In other items of importance, it was decided to send more money to help out Montana in their fight against Initiative 177 which would ban trapping on public ground in that state.
The youth trapping education program was discussed, as well as Gary Macke’s youth program he helps with.
Nebraska Game and Parks Furbearer Biologist Sam Wilson gave his report. It is looking good for a discounted fur harvest permit for seniors and veterans. Things are also starting to look good for an Otter season in Nebraska, but it is a long process and the specifics are still being worked out.
The positions of Treasurer and Vice President were up for election this year. No one contested, so Monty Arnold (VP) and Jason Reynoldson (Treasurer) will retain their offices.
Gary Macke presented the Nebraska Fur Harvesters with a check for $800 from NAFA.
NFH Spring Meeting will be held in Seward Nebraska, April 30th, noon, at the VFW.
Some new things coming to the website will be online membership signups and some NFH merchandise sales.

In case you are not familiar with me, my name is Mike Lance and I have been a NFH member since before 1984. When the Midwest Trapper (Precursor to the Trapper and Predator Caller) was first published by Mr. Chuck Spearman in the mid 70’s I had an article in the 3rd issue (pre dates me a little doesn’t it!). I’m the fellow who runs the Kids Trap Toss on Saturdays during the general meeting of the NFH annual Fall Convention. I try to keep the “natives” from getting too restless while you tend to the “business”. Which is why I am writing. If we continue to do this we need donated traps from members like you to award as prizes to the kids. I can’t begin to thank the folks who have donated all types of traps through years, but Dave Hastings, Jim Cronin, Joe Jack, Kris McAllister, Don Miller and several others went way above what I asked. Many times reaching into their own pockets and time slots to provide me with enough prizes and time to make the Trap Toss a success. I’m now asking you newer members to take their place by donating a trap or two so the NFH Fall Convention Trap Toss can continue….. #0’s, 1’s, 1.5’s, 2’s, LS or Coils, small body grip traps, gopher& mole traps, etc. are prizes given in the Toss and are currently needed. Typically we need from 50-60 individual traps/yr. in order that every boy and girl gets 1. Bring anything you have to the convention – new or “pre-owned” in useable condition and I’ll keep this portion of the Convention active as long as the members want. If you need to visit on this or about any other topic let me know with a call @ cell # 402-841-0380 or Pilger NE @396-3718. Thanks.
