Trust your year’s off to a great start!

Hopefully everyone is having a stellar fur season! Having experienced the mild weather, it is apparent that normal critter activities are not being observed in central Nebraska.

As I write these words there are but a handful of days before the Deer Expo will open its doors in Lincoln. Kevin Jones, NFH president has expressed several association members are lined up to assist with the January 16 ,17 and 18th event. I was fortunate to help with the gathering last year. Many a thousand persons visited the Nebraska Fur Harvesters display. Not one negative comment was made toward fur harvesting. Most persons were impressed with our commitment toward sound, scientific wildlife management. Give each of these persons a hats off thank you for their dedication by helping with the display.

Our next event will be the spring meeting. Mark April 11th and plan to head for Hershey, Nebraska. Hershey is at the I-80 exit number 164 which is 10 or 15 miles west of North Platte.

The meeting is being held at the American Legion at 108 E 2nd ST. Zip code 69134. Lunch will be provided at 12:00 PM and it is requested one RSVP’s with Kevin Jones at (402) 432-4448. The meeting will start at 1:00 PM. Be a part of the decision making for the Nebraska Fur Harvesters are of the membership, by the membership and for the membership.

Once again, we will be participating in the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Experience at Fort Kearney. This location is south west of Kearney and being held May 6th & 7th this year. As the days progress we will have several groups of school students attend seminars showing the value of fur harvesting. This exposes not only the benefit of population density control but also the value of natural fur as a renewable resource. As listed above, call Kevin Jones to express your interest in assisting with the event.

I have toured the grounds of this years Fall Convention in Lexington. It would be difficult to design a better location for the September 25th & 25th convention. Clean well-ventilated dealer buildings. Ample restrooms and in excess of fifty camping pads with electricity and water. There is a dump station on the grounds. As a member of the convention committee, I am working with the Chamber of commerce for the host motels and food vendors during the event. Hopefully we will have these announcements for the next publication.

Here is wishing everyone a successful season and safe travels.

Call with any comments! Roy
