As fur season comes to an end this is the time I evaluate the season. Going through my notebooks shows the subjects I thought need attention and those rambling thoughts that needed to be entered. This season was fair but could have used more moisture. My personal catch was down slightly but the memories are priceless!
As I write these thoughts my bags are packed for the Deer Expo. in Lincoln. The doors will close long before these pages reach you so I will report in the next issue. This event is huge and extremely good exposure for our association. The Nebraska Fur Harvesters have been asked to give a presentation on trapping and the fur trade. As it stands now, I will be explaining the subjects during the event.
There will be several events the NFH will participate in this spring and summer. The spring meeting Kevin announced above, the Fort Kearney outdoor expo., possibly the State fair in Grand Island and the Ponca state park outdoor event. I realize with the family life and job duty it is difficult to get away and help! At the same time if you are interested in helping present our way of life give Kevin Jones a call at 402-432-4448. I have found the public to be very acceptive to the information.
Over the decades I have assisted with many a convention. Without a doubt this year’s fall convention in Chadron will be one of the best I have attended. Mark Ross and Dave Hastings are doing a commendable job organizing the NFH fall Convention in Chadron, NE. The schedule and vendor list continue to grow. In addition, the area has countless attractions to see. The Museum of the Fur Trade, Chadron Strate Park, Pine Ridge National Recreation Area, Maria Sandoz High Planes Heritage Center and the list goes on. In addition, Rapid City is a 1 ½ hour drive away. This Black Hills Location has countless attractions and a pile of tourist attractions. make it a vacation. I will be leaving early heading there. If you have questions or concerns do not fail to give me a call!
